Facebook has announced that its popular iPhone application now adds support for iPhone 4, as well as some improvements and minor bug corrections. The newly updated app, namely version 3.1.4, provides users with faster application switching and adds Korean and Russian localizations. Still, the main highlight of the update seems to be the support for high resolution icons, which take advantage of the iPhone 4's 640x960 display resolution.

"Facebook for iPhone makes it easy to stay connected and share information with friends. Use your iPhone to start a conversation with Facebook Chat, check your friends' latest photos and status updates, look up a phone number, or upload your own mobile photos to Facebook while on the go."

iPad owners will have to wait as the update isn't compatible with their devices yet. One of the major improvements added by the latest releases of Facebook app for iPhone, since version 3.0, was the ability to play Facebook videos and Push Notifications capability.

Even though it offers lots of eye-candy features, Facebook hasn't introduced anything new; the refreshed version looks and feels almost untouched on iOS4. Also, some users have reported that the applications still cannot do background uploading.

Since the update has just been announced and made available on the App Store, it will probably take a while until it is available on all international markets. Users can download Facebook 3.1.4 for iPhone and iPod touch devices through the iTunes store or simply update it directly on their gadget if they have an Internet connection available.

Facebook is the world’s largest social network, with over 400 million users and is the 5th most valuable US Internet company. Facebook's competitors include MySpace, Bebo, Friendster, LinkedIn, Tagged, Hi5, Piczo and Open Social.
