A possible replacement for the 8GB iPhone 3G

Cupertino-based Apple launched the latest flavor of its iPhone, the 3GS, at the end of June, and made available two different iterations of the device, based on the storage space they offered, namely a 16GB and a 32GB one. The previous version of the mobile phone, the iPhone 3G, came in two variants as well, an 8GB and a 16GB one, with the price of the former dropped all the way down to $99 upon the arrival of the 3GS models.

According to the latest news on the Internet, Apple might be set to make a further move with the 8GB iPhone 3G, namely it intends to slash the handset in favor of an 8GB iPhone 3GS variant. The new flavor of iPhone's latest version is reportedly already on its way towards Canada's Rogers Wireless' stores, which means that it should make its appearance on the market in the near future.

According to BGR, if Apple already moves towards replacing the $99 iPhone model with an 8GB 3GS it might mean that the iPhone 3G 8GB stock is clearing up already. A leaked document from Rogers shows a “Rogers 8GB iPhone transitioning to 3GS,” which mentions the launch of the “iPhone 3GS in 8GB Black,” which means that things are already moving into place and that an official announcement should follow in the near future.

On the other hand, in case the new 8GB 3GS will replace the iPhone 3G model with the same capacity, it is rather uncertain whether the price tag will remain the same. For sure, having a 3GS at $99 would attract a lot of users, yet it remains to be seen whether or not the new handset flavor will be a little more expensive. At the same time, we should also note that there are no details regarding its launch in the US or in other markets, though more details might surface soon, so stay tuned to learn more on this.
