According to the latest news around the Web, Apple managed to sell more than 1 million iPhone 3G S devices during the first three days of the phone's availability. Although analysts expected for only a number of 500,000 units to be sold in the first weekend, it seems that the new iPhone iteration has performed much better, and that it even managed to rise above the number of sales its older brother, iPhone 3G, registered during its first weekend.

In addition, Apple stated that more than 6 million users downloaded the iPhone OS 3.0, as InformationWeek reports. Although the presence of 3G in the package helped the second iPhone device reach 1 million units in sales, it seems that the new 3G S model has attracted even more users on its side, despite forecasts. At the same time, the sales are far better than those seen by the iPhone's supposed rival, the Palm Pre, which shipped less than 100,000 units during the first weekend of availability.

The new iPhone version went live on Friday in the US and in seven other countries around the world, and early reports show much shorter lines in front of the stores. According to some voices, the fact that AT&T and Apple also offered the pre-order option for the third iPhone variant drove to the shorter lines, yet Apple hasn't stated whether the figure of more than 1 million units sold includes the pre-ordered ones as well (or those in the channel).

Even so, we should note that the fresh iPhone comes with a better camera than its predecessors, while including video recording capabilities and other new features as well. At the same time, Apple seems to be rather content of the smartphone's sales, as Steve Jobs reveals in a prepared statement that “Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning. With over 50,000 applications available from Apple's revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever.”
