New York is not the only city where iPhone enthusiasts started waiting in front of the stores for the iPhone 3G. A queue is now formed in Tokyo too, in front of SoftBank's store from the Harajuku district, where the first Japanese iPhone 3G handsets will be sold.
Of course, Japan will only get the new iPhone at the same time as the other 22 global markets, on July 11, so there are still two more days to wait. But this has not stopped more than 20 people from already getting in line in front of the above-mentioned store to make sure they'll be able to handle an iPhone 3G ahead of most Japanese users.
According to
Akihabara News, the very first (future) Japanese iPhone 3G owner sits in front of SoftBank's store since yesterday morning, when he came from Nagoya, a city situated 265 kilometers (164 miles) South-West of Tokyo. The young man is a Computer Science student and a dedicated Apple fan, owning a MacBook Pro, an iMac, a Mac Mini, an iPod Touch and – as you can see in the picture – an Apple t-shirt too. The student says he will buy a 16GB white iPhone 3G, because its "back is white while the other face of the device is black. So, it makes me thinking to a Panda, and I like Pandas."
Although only the third largest mobile carrier in Japan (after NTT DoCoMo and KDDI au), SoftBank is the exclusive iPhone 3G carrier for the Asian country. The iPhone 3G will be available in Japan on July 11 early in the morning, starting at 7 AM local time.
With a contract agreement for two years, the 8GB iPhone 3G will have prices starting at 23,000 yen ($216 or 138 Euros), while the 16GB one will be offered for as little as 35,000 yen ($330 or 210 Euros).
