A company specializing in mobile Internet solutions has released findings of wireless network tests conducted on Apple’s iPad. Bytemobile, Inc. says that it used popular applications with identical tasks to compare the volumes of mobile data traffic generated on the iPad and the iPhone. After recording the resulting traffic in the wireless network, Bytemobile was able to confirm that, on average, the iPad generated much more volume of mobile data – some 2.5 times than that produced by the iPhone, its tests showed.

“Bytemobile’s market-leading optimization portfolio enables operators to manage traffic congestion by optimizing web, video and application traffic across all mobile devices, including Apple’s iPad,” the company said in a report. “Bytemobile solutions have been proven to enhance the mobile internet experience by detecting, averting and preventing congestion across all types of data,” Bytemobile claimed.

The company specialized in analyzing mobile Internet data provides a list of highlights of the Apple iPad test, by popular application, compared with results obtained from tests done on the iPhone. These are:

● USA Today generated 6.3x traffic; ● GoogleMaps generated 2.6x traffic; ● Bloomberg generated 2.5x traffic; ● eBay generated 1.5x traffic; ● The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) generated 1.4x traffic.

“With operators’ capacity challenges mounting due to increased smartphone usage, the introduction of the iPad is sure to exacerbate wireless network congestion,” Joel Brand, vice president of Product Management at Bytemobile, said. “The fundamental reality is that network capacity is a constrained resource, even with technological advances and investments in infrastructure expansion. Another quantum leap in data traffic caused by a new class of device will further strain capacity, and operators need to prepare their networks now in order to avoid consumer backlash.”

Those interested in learning more about Bytemobile’s optimization portfolio are encouraged to visit the company’s website here, the report adds. It acknowledges that the recent explosion in mobile data traffic poses extreme challenges for wireless network operators. Bytemobile claims to have the answer to these problems, by providing an array of end-to-end solutions, such as intelligent traffic optimization.
