In a new report based on information from Apple’s upstream supply chain, Taiwan’s DigiTimes reveals that the Cupertino giant is still considering changes to the second-generation iPad mini.

Apparently the iPad mini 2 isn’t a done deal, even though its creators are months away from releasing the hardware to the end user.

Sources close to the aforementioned trade publication in Taiwan point out that “Apple is still considering whether to adopt a Retina Display for the device.”

If they do go with a Retina display, Apple will have to postpone the tablet’s launch to the end of the fourth quarter, the sources say. There’s more.

Apple, with its obsession to shrink down the hardware around a display, “has also been asking its upstream supply partners to further shrink the next-generation iPad mini's bezel.”

The company reportedly wants a bezel-free device, to better compete with Samsung and HTC designs.
