Evidence of a white iPad 2 version comes from a repair shop with ties to a Shenzhen, China-based touch-panel supplier which reportedly leaked the image displayed to the left.

Purporting to be the “digitizer” screen of the white iPad 2, the part shown in the respective picture comes from the iFixYouri iPhone repair shop, via 9to5mac.

An iPad 2 announcement is imminent come Wednesday, March 2nd.

Last week Apple sent invitations to select members of the media, confirming that a special event set to be held at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts would include an announcement related to the iPad.

It now appears that Apple not only plans to introduce a camera-equipped iPad, but also a white version as well.

The bezel may be the only hardware part that gets the white treatment, with the back of the device expected to be metallic, just like the current-generation iPad.

Black versions are, of course, in the pipeline, sources say.

It is widely believed that iPad 2 will be slimmer, and faster, but other than these details, everything remains under tight wraps in Cupertino.

Some speculate that Apple’s iPad 2 will not be such a huge step forward, with the company sticking to the same resolution display. The only big difference expected is the camera.

A new version of the iOS mobile operating system will likely power the device.

iOS 4.3, currently in internal beta testing, is said to have reached GM (Gold Master) status. The final, public version should emerge in tandem with the iPad 2 announcement on Wednesday.

Citing people familiar with the upcoming announcement, an Apple-centric web site reported last week that Cupertino was preparing a consumer-oriented product roll-out, not just its official introduction.

It is thus believed that Apple’s iPad 2 will be immediately available following the March 2 event.
