The message is enough to reveal the scam, but users still fall for it

A message promising to take the unsuspecting user to a giveaway location for iPad Air devices, is currently circulating on Facebook and Twitter, seeking to steal the credentials for the social networking services.

The post comes from a friend, who most likely has already fallen for the scam or at least checked out the attractive offer.

The scam follows the classic steps: deliver the bait, ask the user to share the fake news in order to reach more victims, and then ask them to log into the social networking account on the phishing website.

According to OnlineThreatAlerts, the potential victims are not required to pass on the fake message, but to share or “like” the link to the fraudulent website. By doing so, users are more likely to fall into the phishing trap, thinking that, for some unknown reason, they’ve been signed out of Facebook and need to log in again, at the end of the process expecting access to the content on the website.

The message making the rounds is as follows:

“a friend showed me a site that is screwed up and giving away iPad Airss and it really worked. he got one and i did too, You guys need to go there and get a few too. here’s the site 725.estore58 .com. add one and it will work.”

There is no giveaway campaign and all this is just an attempt to grab the credentials of the gullible. The text is an obvious clue for the deceit, but some could fall for it.
