iPad-specific add-ons delayed possibly due to high demand

Apple is listing delayed shipping dates for several of its iPad accessories. The pushed dates are signaling strong demand for the tablet device, some speculate, with the listings appearing days after the availability of iPad pre-orders. While accessories like the Keyboard Dock, and the Dock Connector to VGA Adapter are to become available soon, the iPad Camera Connection Kit remains absent altogether.

Several sources, including Macworld and Electronista are pointing out the pushed shipping dates, suggesting the delays may be tied to high demand of the tablet device unveiled by Apple in January at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, in San Francisco. An analysis by Investor Village's AAPL Sanity board looked at the number of units sold in the first day (including specific device models) and determined that Apple sold between 120,000 and 150,000 iPads on day one of pre-order availability. Reports then followed, dismissing such claims, suggesting that iPad pre-orders hadn’t actually hit the 40,000 units mark. The subject is still being debated.

Back to the delayed accessories, Softpedia can confirm that all of the iPad-specific accessories have been delayed. The following is a breakdown by accessory and settled shipping date, according to the listings over at Apple’s online store.

iPad Keyboard Dock - $69.00 - Ships: Late April iPad Case - $39.00 - Ships: Mid April iPad Dock - $29.00 - Ships: By April 3rd iPad 10W USB Power Adapter - $29.00 - Ships: May iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter - $29.00 - Ships: By April 3rd

Not surprisingly, the Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic can be shipped to your house in 24 hours, for $79. This accessory is the exact same model employed by all of Apple’s iPhones and iPods, making it a must-exist in the company’s warehouses, at any point. Customers can already pre-order any of the above-listed accessories, keeping their respective shipping dates in mind. The iPad itself can also be secured by Apple fans, starting at $499 for the WiFi-only 16GB model, going all the way up to $849 for the 64GB WiFi + 3G version.

In usual Apple manner, every iPad comes with complimentary telephone technical support within 90 days of the customer's iPad purchase. Buyers can extend their technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of their iPad, by purchasing the AppleCare Protection Plan.
