Samsung beats LG Display in orders for 9.7-inch panels in April and June

A report from NPD DisplaySearch suggests that Apple continues to rely on Samsung for procuring iPad displays, mainly for the bigger tablets.

A report issued by the analysts at NPD says Samsung shipped more 9.7-inch panels to Apple than LG Display (LGD) did in April and June. The report adds that Apple has, in fact, increased its orders with Samsung since January.

While LGD remains the top supplier for smaller (iPad mini) 7.9-inch panels, Samsung is likely to take the bulk of orders for the next-generation iPad 5, as “industry officials” tell NPD that Apple is having problems getting Sharp and AU Optronics to improve their yield rates.

Apple is expected to launch several new iDevices this fall, including a Retina-enabled iPad mini and the fifth-generation iPad, which reportedly takes design cues from its smaller sibling.
