Apple seems to have decided on two color versions for its next-generation iPad 5 which will debut this fall, going by various tidbits reported in the tech blogosphere.

A new leak from Aussie Sonny Dickson gives us a high-res look at the unibody enclosure of the tablet, which looks almost identical to the iPad mini, albeit in a bigger form factor.

Apple seems keen on using the new Space Gray color (a derivate of the Slate color debuted with the iPhone 5), as well as a Silver finish, to offer two color options this time around.

So far, all iPads (including the iPad mini) have only been sold in Silver, though the face of the tablet does come in both Black and White versions.

As usual, Dickson is short for words, but he’s got a truckload of images showing the tablet shells from various angles, as well as some close-up shots of certain components (buttons, flex cables, etc.).

The abundance of these iPad leaks is indicative of a release just around the corner. Some recent reports said Apple was preparing for a new event in October, just a month away from its iPhone 5s/5c launch event.

This yet-to-be-confirmed showcase will reportedly include both the iPad 5 refresh and the iPad mini 2.

The fifth-generation full-size iPad is expected to come with a beefed up processor and faster overall performance. This refresh is mostly centered around the new design: a thinner and lighter body, chamfered edges, and a narrower screen bezel.

The iPad mini 2 is a similarly exciting prospect for Apple lovers, as many are waiting with their $329 / €329 in hand hoping to see a Retina display included this time around, along with the usual CPU speed bump.
