Accessory maker Belkin has announced the latest addition to its portfolio for iDevices, the Thunderstorm Handheld Home Theater for iPad 4th generation.

A $199.99 (€150) speaker dock, the Thunderstorm enhances the sound quality of music, movies and video games via an Audifi solution for high-efficiency, cinematic-quality sound.

The hardware connects directly to the iPad through an integrated Lightning dock connector, and works with the updated Thunder app to enable users to automatically maintain the left and right channel audio output.

Featuring an updated chassis that integrates a new Sound Mode button, the new Thunderstorm allows users to cycle between four different sound mode options, including one for conference calls. This option enhances voice frequencies when using Skype.

Bass frequencies are optimized through integrated air channels.

If you buy one, Belkin offers a free month of Hulu Plus, giving you access to premium television content on your iPad.

Since it uses the Lightning connector standard, the hardware is only compatible with the fourth-generation iPad. It also sports a magnetically-attached folding soft cover with multiple stand configurations, and it’s MFi certified by Apple.

Nate Kraft, director of product management at Belkin, says “Apple’s latest iPad with retina display provides the highest quality visual experience, and Thunderstorm Handheld Home Theater delivers amplified audio to match for complete content engagement and shareable entertainment.”

“It is a truly portable speaker case that seamlessly integrates with the iPad 4 to create a unified experience whether you are at home or on the go,” Kraft adds.

The Thunderstorm Handheld Home Theater for iPad 4 is available online at belkin.com, as well as across select retailers (the company doesn’t say which ones).
