Apple releases its category-defining product in South Korea and 11 more territories

Apple’s latest and greatest iPad is set to arrive in a dozen additional countries this week, including South Korea, according to a media release by the Cupertino giant.

A press release issued April 16th by Apple Inc. states that “Apple today announced the new iPad, the third generation of its category defining mobile device, will arrive in South Korea and 11 additional countries on Friday, April 20.”

The usual technicalities are dished out, followed by the list of countries that are set to receive shipments of the tablet computer.

“In addition to South Korea, the new iPad also will be available beginning on Friday, April 20 in Brunei, Croatia, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Malaysia, Panama, St Maarten, Uruguay and Venezuela.”

Following this multi-country launch, the new iPad will further expand its presence in Colombia, Estonia, India, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, South Africa and Thailand on April 27, Apple said.

At the time the new iPad was officially unveiled to the world, Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said “The new iPad redefines the category Apple created less than two years ago, delivering the most amazing experience people have ever had with technology.”

“The new iPad now has the highest resolution display ever seen on a mobile device with 3.1 million pixels, delivering razor sharp text and unbelievable detail in photos and videos,” added Schiller, as the iPad shipped in the United States.

On March 16th, the device was also released in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, UK and the US Virgin Islands.

On March 19th, Apple announced it had sold three million iPad units since its launch on Friday, March 16.

Starting March 23, the new iPad became available in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
