Apple is shipping the iPad 2 Smart Cover ahead of the tablet it is supposed to cover, according to the company's online store listings.

Scheduled to arrive in 2-to-3 weeks, the iPad 2 is Apple’s latest marvel.

In addition to its dual cameras, faster processor, and thinner silhouette, the iPad 2 has some great accessories, including something called ‘Smart Cover’ which really is what its name implies.

First and foremost, it is a cover for the iPad’s screen. But it’s not a usual one. It has magnetic fasteners and rolls up nicely to hold the iPad in various positions.

Users can fold it back to tilt iPad into a comfortable writing position, doubling as a keyboard stand. It also works great as a FaceTime and movie stand.

It even tells the iPad to turn its screen on and off whenever the user lifts or closes the lid.

“So much more than a case, the Smart Cover was designed alongside iPad 2 to be its perfect match: a thin, durable cover that magnetically aligns for a perfect fit,” Apple says.

The aluminum hinge magnetically aligns the Smart Cover with the tablet for a perfect fit.

“It automatically wakes and sleeps your iPad. It’s a handy stand for reading, watching, and typing. Its microfiber lining keeps your iPad screen clean. And it’s a way to make your iPad as personal on the outside as it is on the inside,” reads the Mac maker’s description.

The cover comes in five polyurethane colors with a soft, microfiber lining that keeps the iPad’s display clean.

More pretentious customers can opt for one of five aniline-dyed Italian leather covers.

According to Apple’s fine print on the leather cover, since the accessory is crafted from naturally treated material that gets its color from a rich aniline dye, “some color may rub off during use.”
