In accordance with yesterday’s official announcement, Apple has now kicked off online sales of its second generation iPad. It appears that the safest bet to get your iPad 2 ASAP remains visiting your local Apple store, or one of the retailers carrying the company’s tablet computer.

Without taking down its online store, Apple has updated the listings for iPad 2 availability, noting that all models are scheduled to ship in 3 to 5 business days.

iPad 2 with Wi-Fi is available at $499 for the 16GB model, $599 for the 32GB model, and $699 for the 64GB model.

iPad 2 with Wi-Fi + 3G starts at $629 for the 16GB model, goes for $729 for the 32GB model, and ends at $829 for the 64GB model. Both AT&T and Verizon cellular networks are supported by iPad 2 with Wi-Fi + 3G.

All models are eligible for Apple's free engraving service.

Right now, the iPad 2 is only available in the U.S.

Apple confirmed that territories scheduled to receive iPad 2 shipments on March 25 include Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK on March 25.

Additional countries around the world are on track to get Apple’s iPad 2 “in the coming months.” Apple takes it upon itself to announce international availability and pricing later on.

iPad 2 comes pre-loaded with iOS 4.3, the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, which leverages the power of Apple’s A5 dual core chip with 521 RAM and 9x the graphical processing power of its predecessor (the A4 found in the original iPad, the iPhone 4, and new-gen iPod touches).

iPad 2 sports an all new design and dual cameras for taking stills and video, FaceTime, and the fun Photo Booth application ported from Mac OS X.
