Vidyo Inc. has announced iPad 2 support for its VidyoTechnology Software Development Kit (SDK) for creating applications. iPhone 4 and iPod touch are also supported, Vidyo said in a report.

The company’s communication and collaboration platform allegedly provides a 720p High- Definition (HD) multipoint video conferencing solution supported by Apple’s second-generation tablet computer.

The award-winning technology runs on a variety of devices, not just Apple’s, the company said.

Users can join video conferences from anywhere using the device of their choice via client applications built by Vidyo or partners with the Vidyo SDK.

“Look for Vidyo’s rich multipoint video conferencing soon on your favorite tablets and smart phones,” said Vidyo.

Vidyo’s CEO and co-founder touts the new hardware inside Apple’s iPad 2 as perfect for HD video conferencing:

“The faster CPU of the Apple iPad 2 and its front and rear-facing cameras, make it an exciting platform that begs for HD multipoint video communication and collaboration,” said Ofer Shapiro, Vidyo CEO.

“Vidyo was able to use its SDK to enable the Apple iPad 2 to participate in high-definition 720p multipoint video conferencing within hours of general availability of the device,” Shapiro added.

“Just like the multi-core architecture in PCs allowed us to provide Personal Telepresence to the desktop a few years ago, the same evolution on mobile platforms is opening up the market for Vidyo in the hand-held space,” he said.

Available today for iOS development, Vidyo’s SDK and APIs are immediately available to those interested in coding solutions for the platform.

Other supported devices include Motorola’s XOOM tablet and the Atrix 4G smartphone.

Apple’s own iPhone 4 and an unspecified iPod model (likely the touch) are also mentioned as supported by Vidyo’s development toolkit.

Vidyo is able to brag that its solution can easily be expanded, upgraded, and customized for customers’ individual Enterprise and vertical market video conferencing needs, as it is completely software based.
