A week after leaked documents indicated that Toys R Us was to carry the iPad 2, the toy store chain has confirmed availability of the tablet through many of its retail outlets across the U.S.

The retailer’s internal documents, leaked last week, indicated that sales of the iPad 2 would begin by May.

Now, the retailer is advertising the Apple tablet with a list of stores where it can be purchased in the U.S.

The iPad 2 is advertised using Apple marketing materials with the white version of the tablet dressed up in various Smart Covers.

It is unconfirmed at this point whether the Smart Cover is the only iPad 2 accessory carried by Toys R Us.

The retailer is at its first attempt to capitalize on the hype of Apple’s iPad, as the original tablet computer could not be purchased through Toys R Us before. The toy store has been selling iPods for a while, though.

In addition to selling in the U.S. at various retail outlets such as Best Buy, Target, Walmart and carriers Verizon Wireless and AT&T, the iPad 2 is available in countries including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

The WiFi-only tablet sells for $499 for the 16GB model, $599 for 32GB, and $699  64GB of storage. For $629, customers can buy the base 16GB iPad 2 with Wi-Fi + 3G version. The 3G-enabled iPad 2 costs $729 for the 32GB model, and $829  for the 64GB model.

Apple announced in March that iPad 2 will be available in Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore and additional countries in April, and in many more countries around the world in the months to follow.

The company promised to announce further international availability and pricing at a later date.
