Glide, a provider of cross-platform compatibility, has announced expanded support for the rapidly growing tablet computer market by further extending the Glide compatibility platform to add Apple’s iPad 2, the Motorola XOOM, the BlackBerry Playbook and other tablets to its range of supported platforms.

Glide is an Internet-based ‘cloud-computing’ solution targeting both regular consumers and businesses.

Educational facilities also make use of Glide’s mobile-desktop environment through a web browser and other web-enabled solutions.

Glide features a word processor, a presentation program, spreadsheet, email, and an online meeting program, to name some of its productivity and collaboration features.

According to the company, Glide “cuts through” both hardware and software to crush format barriers implemented in the likes of QNX, iOS, Android Honeycomb and webOS.

The result is seamless sharing and collaboration between Apple iPad 2, HP Touchpad, Motorola XOOM, Samsung Galaxy, BlackBerry Playbook and other tablet computers, Glide said today.

“No matter what tablet, smartphone, laptop or desktop computer you use, Glide makes it easy to securely share your videos, music, documents and photos with everyone,” the company explains.

Somewhat similar in functionality to Dropbox, Glide basically lets you access, edit and share your files that are synced or uploaded from your various devices Glide's ‘GDrive.’

The virtual drive (backed by real servers, of course) comes as standard with 30GB of free storage, “effectively turning the web into your personal shared hard drive for all of your devices.”

"With over 100 tablet computers already announced this year, the need for cross platform compatibility has greatly increased," said TransMedia Chairman & CEO, Donald Leka.

"In addition to extending the capabilities of these mobile devices with 30GBs of free online storage and a full suite of productivity and collaboration applications, Glide creates automated compatibility between users of different devices for easy access and editing and sharing of files."

"With Glide, mobility does not mean a loss of security," added Mr. Leka. "Glide is a sophisticated permissions based collaboration platform providing granular control when sharing files."
