As expected, iOS SDK 4.0.2 is now available for those who wish to continue their development on devices with iOS 4.0.2 or iOS 3.2.2 installed. According to Apple, the new iOS SDK 4.0.2 includes the Xcode IDE, iPhone Simulator, and a range of additional tools for developing applications for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Addressing those enrolled with the iPhone Developer Program, Apple outlines: “If you have updated your iPhone or iPod touch to iOS 4.0.2 or your iPad to iOS 3.2.2 you will need to download and install iOS SDK 4.0.2 to continue your development.”

Posted August 11, 2010, and labeled as Build 10M2262b, Xcode 3.2.3 and iOS SDK 4.0.2 require an Intel-based Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.4 or later.

Downloads are also available for the Xcode 3.2.3 Readme (release notes and additional documentation), the iOS SDK Agreement, as well as for the iPhone Configuration Utility.

iPhone Configuration Utility allows users to create, maintain, encrypt, and push configuration profiles, as well as track and install provisioning profiles and authorized applications. The utility also assists users in capturing device information, which includes console logs.

iOS 4.0.2 and iOS 3.2.2 were necessary to address two security issues with Apple’s portables which enabled the infamous iPhone Dev Team to create a jailbreak tool for the iOS user base.

Although not developed with this specific purpose in mind, the patch (available in both firmware updates) plugs the vulnerabilities leveraged by JailbreakMe.com, effectively thwarting any attempts to hack the respective iOS device.

Evidently, iOS device owners must download and install the new software, for the patch to take effect.

Over at the iPhone Dev Center, Apple has tons of resources for developers to get started using its SDK, including videos and documents, an iOS reference library, coding how-to’s, and sample code.

WWDC session videos are also available to all registered Apple Developers. Before this year’s conference, developers were required to pay for access to this particular resource. Now, devs have free access to the session videos.
