Apple has released some figures via an open letter from CEO Tim Cook regarding the iOS Maps fiasco. Among those numbers, Apple confirmed the count for search results offered by its Maps application – 500 million.

For a service that doesn’t work, as the media would have you believe, Apple’s Maps is enjoying quite some attention.

Company CEO Timothy D. Cook said in a letter addressed to customers today, “In just over a week, iOS users with the new Maps have already searched for nearly half a billion locations.” That’s 500 million search results!

And there are more than 100 million iOS devices using the new Apple Maps (since the iOS 6 debut on September 19), with more people hopping aboard every day, Cook said.

The Apple boss also assured customers that the company’s software engineers are burning the midnight oil to overcome all the hurdles incurred by the switch from Google Maps.
