A new report may shed some light on Apple’s long-term plans with the company’s Maps service, which is reportedly getting a big update in a planned iOS release.

Unnamed sources tell 9to5mac that “Apple is testing a tool for its Maps app that, with the M7 chip, could analyze when your car is parked.”

The functionality sounds impressive, with the sources adding that your iPhone will be able to assist you in locating your car when you return to the parking lot.

Apple is working on other mapping features as well, many of which will be deployed through updates to its Maps app in iOS 8, according to the sources.

The Cupertino giant is already busy implementing public transit directions and indoor mapping, thanks to a number of small acquisitions carried out in the past few months.
