Hackers burned what Pod2g calls “a highly valuable root exploit”

French hacker Pod2g is expressing discontent towards the release of a “stupid 6.1.5 jailbreak” which apparently uses up a valuable exploit that would have provided jailbreaks for future iOS versions, like iOS 7.1 or even next year’s iOS 8.

Visibly upset, the security expert said on Twitter, “Nice! @winocm and @iH8sn0w burnt a highly valuable root exploit that would have worked for future iOS versions for a stupid 6.1.5 jailbreak.”

Pod2g has every reason to be upset, as he and his fellow hackers have worked for months trying to find these types of exploits to gain root access to Apple’s airtight mobile software. There are even rumors that these exploits can be sold for quite a bit of cash.

Instead, hackers iH8sn0w and winocm decided to release p0sixspwn, a new jailbreak for A5+ devices running iOS 6. While the number of users still on iOS 6 is not negligible, Pod2g feels that the wasted exploit could have served a much better purpose down the line.

Update: headline updated to replace iOS 8 reference to iOS 7.1.
