Apple likely to patch the vulnerabilities before the final release of iOS 8

Tethered jailbreak Geeksn0w author BlackGeek has announced plans to release the very first iOS 8 jailbreak once he has permission from the Pangu team to bundle their code inside his own unofficial jailbreak.

Responsible for a now-outdated hack, BlackGeek plans to gain more followers by offering up the world’s first iOS 8 jailbreak which he says will apply to the first and second betas released by Apple.

On a newly-set page on his site, the hacker says, “I have every intention to release this untethered jailbreak of iOS 8 Beta, but at the moment it’s unfinished and I’m not able to continue it,” which certainly sounds disappointing.

But he continues, noting that he will deliver the goods once he obtains a public technical write-up of the original Pangu tool and authorization from the Pangu team to release his unofficial version for iOS 8.

He therefore can’t provide an ETA for the tool, but it seems he has every intention to release it with the first chance he gets. BlackGeek credits i0n1c for his “info_leak” bug, which basically spurred the jailbreak in question, as well as the Pangu team for their own efforts.

Hacker i0n1c, going by the real name of Stefan Esser, reportedly disclosed his exploits in a code-centric discussion with other hackers. He relayed in a series of tweets that the Pangu team had somehow ripped him off by implementing the exploits into their own working jailbreak and released it to the public.

Moreover, the Pangu team reportedly got rich overnight by accepting to bundle a pirated apps store with their jailbreak. All this remains to be confirmed, but it certainly sounds very plausible as it’s not the first time something like this happens.

In case you’re wondering if this upcoming iOS 8 jailbreak will work on the final / public version of iOS 8 this fall, chances are it won’t. Despite failing to patch the vulnerabilities in iOS 7.1.2 yesterday, the company is known to take steps to thwart such hacks with every major firmware release, including point-one updates (i.e. iOS 7.1).

In fact, because the Pangu team jumped the gun and publicized i0n1c’s exploits before iOS 8 rolled out, it is believed that a fully-untethered jailbreak for iOS 8 Final will be very hard to come by.
