Developers eager to try out the latest enhancements in Apple’s mobile software can immediately download iOS 8 and the all-new iOS 8 SDK from the company’s developer portal free of charge.

At WWDC today Apple unveiled iOS 8, calling it “the biggest release since the launch of the App Store,” featuring a more intuitive experience, iCloud Photo Library, new Messages features, a new Health app, the QuickType keyboard, Family Sharing, iCloud Drive, Continuity, an updated version of Spotlight, and a massive update for developers.

Coders can further extend the reach of their app with over 4,000 new APIs that enable all-new features and capabilities and new technologies for game development.

iOS 8 Beta and the accompanying SDK are immediately available for download from developer.apple.com, while end users will be able to grab iOS 8 this fall as a free software update for iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2, iPad with Retina display, iPad Air, iPad mini, and iPad mini with Retina display.

iCloud Drive is also a feature deeply embedded in iOS 8, allowing users to store and access files like using a regular Finder window, mimicking services like Dropbox and Google Drive.
