TaiG team rolls out hack for new firmware adopters

Users who accidentally erased their jailbreak by making the jump to iOS 8.1.1 and iOS 8.1.2 have a reason to smile today, because a Chinese team of hackers has released an untethered jailbreak for the new firmware.

The TaiG team is lesser known than the Pangu guys, but apparently they put in just as much work to churn out hacks for the public. Their latest development? TaiG for iOS 8.1.2.

Windows only, localized in Chinese

Don’t be scared of the tool just because it’s only available for Windows computers and doesn’t have an English translation yet. The TaiG team has everyone covered with a tutorial written in English. However, it may not be written in a way that everyone will understand, so we’ll give you the gist of it right here.

If you have a Windows PC, that’s awesome. If not, try running Windows in a virtual machine. If you don’t know what this means, then you should probably stay away from jailbreaks altogether. Right, let’s dig in.

How to jailbreak iOS 8.1.2

1. Download TaiG on your PC and extract the archive’s contents. 2. Launch iTunes and connect your iDevice to the computer using the Lightning cable supplied to you by Apple. 3. Restore your device to iOS 8.1.2. 4. Turn off Find My iPhone (Settings > iCloud). 5. Enable AirPlane mode from Control Center. 6. Right-click on the TaiGJBreak exe tool and select to run it as admin. 7. Wait for TaiG to recognize your device. 8. Keep Cydia checked and uncheck the second box down. 9. Click the green jailbreak button.

The TaiG app should be jailbreaking your iDevice at this point. When it’s done, you should see a smiley face.

Disclaimer: since the TaiG tool isn’t exactly flawless, we can’t recommend it. In fact, jailbreaking is not recommended in and of itself. We take no responsibility if the above steps don’t work for you, or worse, they cause harm to your device. This is not an official guide and therefore it shouldn’t be treated as one.

TaiG wants to be friends with Pangu

A message from the TaiG team on taig.com reveals that the people behind this new hack are on the lookout for new team members. Most importantly, they want to join forces with existing jailbreakers in China to release more reliable solutions.

“Of course Jailbreaking is a hard and complex work, relying on 1 person or a single team will not make it last long,” says the team. “Luckily we have some fellows domestically, if we can cooperate, it will bring more benefits for all users. Thus we sincerely invite PanGu Team for a face-to-face communication, to find a way of cooperation for providing faster and better jailbreak service together.”
