Apple’s mobile OS will extend social ties for iPhone and iPad users

A person who is familiar with the development of iOS 7 has spilled the beans on a new feature that will enhance the social aspects of the software. Namely, Vimeo and Flickr will be natively integrated in the OS.

Year after year Apple strives to take all the big social networks aboard, the latest examples being Facebook and Twitter.

This year, when iOS 7 ships, customers will also get native integration with the likes of Vimeo and Flickr, according to a knowledgeable person who is familiar with the software and decided to let the word out.

9to5mac points out that the feature is still in testing, and therefore could be phased out – at least at the debut of iOS 7 – if development isn’t ready in time.

It certainly doesn’t sound very promising, especially with iRadio seemingly having the same fate. Let’s hope Apple at least has some pretty application icons to show off at WWDC.

Speculation aside, the source is cited as saying that “Both Flickr and Vimeo will now also be integrated deeply into the new operating system,” which would allow users to sign into the services via the main Settings application in iOS.

“Like with iOS’s Facebook and Twitter ties, Apple customers will be able to log-in one time into each social network and have full sharing access,” according to the same source.

The new Flickr integration will most likely enable instant login to Flickr via third-party apps, and the same should apply for VOD service Vimeo.

In related news, Flickr now offers 1TB of free storage to anyone who signs up to use the service. A couple of free iPhone apps are also available to use,  Flickr and Vimeo, respectively.
