A person familiar with the matter said it’s “not as much of a fire drill”

A report by Bloomberg the other day sounded the alarm that iOS 7 could be delayed, but several people with knowledge of the situation say the software is actually still on schedule, despite a few skipped deadlines.

We relayed Bloomberg’s story yesterday noting that Jonathan Ive is currently overseeing two teams who are working on iOS 7.

Many of the developers coding the software are actually Mac engineers, the report said, corroborating earlier rumors that Apple had sourced manpower from other engineering teams to ensure smooth sailing for iOS 7.

However, the news agency had also noted that iOS 7 could be delayed, and that Apple was actually “rushing” to release it in September.

Now All Things D quotes a source as saying everything is a-ok.

“Yes, yes — it’s essentially a repeat of the iPhone/Leopard scenario,” the source said, referring to a similar move by Apple in 2007 when the company pulled some engineers from the Mac team to work on the iPhone software.

“Not as much of a fire drill, though. It will ship on time,” the source confirmed.

The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple, a reputable pundit, is giving his notoriously concise seal of approval to these claims: “Yep.”

So we have two reliable sources telling everyone to calm down, and a WWDC conference kicking off in just over one month from now.

Apple will most likely have a pre-release iOS 7 build to showcase at the event, as well as a demo of OS X 10.9, despite having to cut back development resources on the desktop front.

While last year’s executive shakeup undoubtedly caused some internal turmoil at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, CA, there’s no reason to assume Apple can no longer hold its own.

As an added bonus, the company’s CEO himself specifically told investors to look out for some exciting new product announcements this fall.

It’s still only spring now. Let’s not get carried away by rumors.
