A nip and tuck affair, iOS 6 bests the early beta of iOS 7 but only by a small margin

A speed test video of iOS 7 versus iOS 6 is available for your viewing pleasure courtesy of upstertv, showing differences in the performance of the two platforms.

As the video shows, there’s a visible lag on iOS 7 when it comes to launching apps, but the main reason behind this seems to be the actual animation that takes you inside the app.

On iOS 6, where the UI zooms to the middle of the display, the transition from Home screen to running app is much speedier, mainly because that’s the way it was intended to be.

On iOS 7, the zoom-in occurs from whichever portion of the screen you tapped on. For instance, if your app is sitting on the bottom left, it’ll expand from there to display your app. It seems Apple wanted to make this video effect more appealing in iOS 7, and thus made it more visible (i.e. a bit slower).

Admittedly, iOS 6 does seem to be performing a bit better in this video.

However, there are some instances where iOS 7 loads the web faster, and Maps behaves beautifully on the new operating system too. Considering that iOS 7 is a work in progress (the first beta available), there’s still a lot of improvement to be made.
