The stock apps in Apple’s new iOS are all part of a big family now

Apple’s Jonathan Ive is making sure iOS 7 will be a hit when Apple unveils the software at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June. In addition to all the system-wide UI tweaks, Ive has commissioned a lot of specific changes to the stock apps as well.

According to a lengthy piece at 9to5mac citing sources who are familiar with the software, iOS 7 will sport apps that “fit the white, black, and flat theme of the new operating system.”

Examples range from the current yellow-themed Notes app to the faux texture of the green felt Game Center app.

All of the linen and leather textures scattered across apps like Calendar (on iPad) have been redesigned wit “flat white and black coloring,” the sources say.

Some of the most notable app icon examples to include ‘flatness’ are the Camera and Photos apps. Mail, Calendar, and Maps will also sport “a more uniformed look with flat white textures.”

Each app has been assigned a unique button color, with a white base and an original color theme for each app.

The Weather application in particular will reportedly offer “slightly animated images” of the sun, rain, and snow.

Newsstand has been redesigned to do away with the wood-shelf interface, although this application might have been the only one to make sense with such a design (same goes for iBooks).

“The App/iTunes/iBook stores will pick up a flatter, white look (as opposed to the current dark black theme),” the sources added.

Finally, because numerous users are reportedly confused by FaceTime, Apple “may” introduce a standalone / dedicate FaceTime app with iOS 7, like on the iPad and iPod touch.
