Developers preparing their binaries for the iOS 7 debut are signaling that Apple now requires larger application icons for new submissions – some 6 pixels larger than the current 114x114 spec.

Icons in iOS 7 – whether they are for Apple’s own apps, or third-party titles – must be 120 by 120 pixels, in order to display properly on the Home screen, according to a memo sent by Apple to developers.

One such developer is specifically told that his / her iOS app icon has invalid images destined for the icon set.

The memo further states (as depicted in the screenshot above) that “If your application supports the iPhone device family, you must include square icons of the following dimensions: 57×57 pixels and 120×120 pixels.”

For iPads, icons must be at 72×72 pixels, 76×76 pixels, and 152×152 pixels, the same notice reveals.
