iOS 7 “Harms” Nokia Maps App HERE

“Recent changes to iOS 7 harm the user experience,” Nokia said

Nokia has confirmed to the press that its HERE maps application for iOS customers is no longer available for download in the iTunes App Store. The reason? iOS 7, apparently.

Apple has made changes in its mobile operating system, which apparently come into conflict with the maps application supplied by Nokia in the wake of Apple’s Maps PR nightmare.

A statement from the Finnish cell phone maker states, “We have made the decision to remove our HERE Maps app from the Apple App Store because recent changes to iOS 7 harm the user experience.”

Existing users can continue to employ the app, while the mobile web version of HERE Maps (located at m.here.com) can be used by anyone for “location needs, such as search, routing, orientation, transit information and more, all completely free of charge,” according to the company.

Somehow, Nokia makes Apple look like the bad guy here, when the reality is that it simply didn’t update its maps app to work well with iOS 7. Apple has demanded all developers, big and small, to offer full support for iOS 7 by February, or their apps will be yanked from iTunes.
