“Update to iOS 7 and become waterproof,” read a fake Apple poster making the rounds in recent weeks. Some, naive enough to trust the claim, ended up with non-working handsets because they decided to put the claim to the test.

Reportedly originated on controversial forum 4chan, the Apple-style poster said, “In an emergency, a smart-switch will shut off the phone's power supply and corresponding components to prevent any damage to your iPhone's delicate circuitry.”

The poster also claimed, “waterproofing [is] covered by Apple's warranty policy,” further attempting to trick unwary users into believing iOS 7 really does enhance the hardware design of the phone.

Folks, I’m not going to pass any judgment. Inexperienced users can easily be tricked into thinking technology has come this far. Plus the text does sound pretty credible, come to think of it. Heck, it's probably doable too.
