Amazon is asking Kindle users on iPhone and iPad to consider updating to the latest version of the app, if they plan to upgrade to the new iOS 7 when Apple rolls it out.

Scheduled to make its official debut this fall, iOS 7 not only brings new features to the table but also breaks compatibility with existing apps and services.

Kindle 3.9.2, released September 8 for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad customers, is described as “a fix for a Kindle issue with the upcoming iOS 7 OS upgrade that may cause customers to have to re-register and re-download books from Amazon.”

Amazon adds in the release notes, “Please download and install - this is a required update before upgrading to iOS 7.”

iOS 7 is said to arrive ten days after Apple announces its new iPhones, on or around September 20. Download Kindle for iOS (Free)
