iOS 7: Apple Increases OTA Download Limit to 100MB

Apps can be downloaded over-the-air as long as they don’t exceed the 100MB limit

Apple has been steadily increasing the OTA download allowance for iOS apps over the years, starting with a 20MB limit and ending up with a 100MB cap in the latest version of the operating system.

Before iOS 7 dropped, downloading an app wirelessly required that the app in question didn’t exceed 50MB, but with the new mobile software you can now download apps over-the-air in the 100MB range. Nothing bigger than that will do (for now), as the screenshot above shows.

Apple offers iOS 7 as a free download for owners of iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch fifth-generation, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, and iPad mini. Installing the software can be done over-the-air or through iTunes, as explained in our iOS 7 installation guide.
