Apple needs to deploy a patch sooner rather than later

Users on Apple Support Communities continue to rake in complaints regarding two major problems with iOS 7.1, which are now widespread. The company at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, CA may need to address these problems, and perhaps others, with a new firmware update.

Battery drainage is on top of every list of complaints from iOS 7.1 users who took to Apple’s forums to seek advice. No one really knows who the culprit is, but it has become evident that the new firmware brings with it some bugs that affect the way in which the phone manages its power consumption.

User Zrc_iPhone writes, “Can you please help me out, my iPhone 5 battery drains in 2-3 hours after installing iOS 7.1. I am not rigorous user and also turned off motion option. Since installing 1 day ago I atleast [sic] have charge for 10-12 times without so much use. With iOS 7.0.x, my iPhone just require 1 time charging in whole day with same apps.”

Another customer chimes in to say, “Same here. i'm still testing out 7.1, and i've turned off all the things that drain batter. I'm on wifi. when i had the phone crash issue with 7.0.XX at 1:30 pm i would have around 60% battery left, and that was terrible compared to what i had before ios 7. [...] i can literally stand here and watch my phone on the home screen and it's going down 1% every minute.”

Perhaps a less known issue with iOS 7.1 (and iOS 7 in general) is the WiFi-greyed-out flaw. Admittedly there are not as many people complaining about this problem, but there are still enough comments on this subject to consider it a new bug that needs to be fixed.

“After upgrading from a 100% functional iphone 4s from ios 6 to ios 7. wifi stopped working. after reboot, wifi setting is greyed out. bluetooth button is shown as busy circle...” writes a user identified as lqtb.

Apple seems to offer a fix for this issue, but it doesn’t work for everyone.

There is no evidence that the company is working on iOS 7.1.1 or any other incremental update internally. However, at least these two problems have become annoying enough for the user base to require immediate attention.

Apple, as usual, is mum. The moderators aren’t doing anything to reassure affected customers that a fix is in the works. Some have ended up replacing their phones altogether because of these woes.
