Research and monetization firm Onswipe has released the results of a recent study it made to determine just how many people downloaded iOS 7.0.6, following the widespread coverage of a dangerous security bug in the operating system.

According to Onswipe, iOS 7.0.6 currently generates 50.06% of all traffic coming from iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches, with more customers installing the firmware every day. It’s officially installed on the majority of iDevices out there today, further widening the gap between Apple’s mobile OS and Google’s fragmented Android ecosystem.

The fast adoption rate of iOS 7.0.6 was, in part, spurred by the emergence of a security flaw which researchers deemed as critical. Headlines like “Update your iPhone now!” quickly sprawled out, giving at least a small number of customers the chills.

In any case, this is not abnormal behavior in the iOS camp, compared to Android lovers. As many studies in the past have showed, Apple users are more knowledgeable in terms of the new features that are coming their way through a new software update, not to mention that OTA installations are painless.

In fact, there’s a setting in iOS that actually lets the phone automatically download new updates in the background (whenever they’re made available), prompting the user only to reboot.
