Apple engineers reportedly testing high-class applications on unreleased iOS

“High-profile” developers are beginning to notice their apps being used (tested) on iPhones and iPads running iOS 6, the next major version of Apple’s mobile operating system.

Likely tested by software engineers with prototype iDevices, these applications are sending back logs to their respective developers, indicating that Apple is gearing up to unveil the software at its Worldwide Developers conference next month.

The names of the applications and their respective creators are not mentioned for the sake of their good relationship with Apple, but 9to5mac has been granted access to this information by means of a screenshot that shows a breakdown of iOS versions tested against a particular title.

According to some developers, who observed the iOS6 strings when collecting the OS version from analytics software, testing began in April.

One studio in particular saw testing commence (on their software) last week.

Although interesting, this is hardly a surprise, since the same thing happened last year before the launch of iOS 5 alongside the iPhone 4S.

Apple is reportedly in the midst of unveiling a new social service via iCloud that focuses on photography. Other reports have revealed that the Cupertino giant is working to implement a 3D mapping service called “Maps” that will replace the current offering by Google.

These (and likely much more) will be showcased at WWDC 12, Apple’s annual conference with a focus on software development. This year, the gathering will be held June 11 through June 15 at San Francisco’s Moscone West.

When Apple confirmed the WWDC 12 schedule, Philip Schiller, senior vice President of Worldwide Marketing, said: “We have a great WWDC planned this year and can’t wait to share the latest news about iOS and OS X Mountain Lion with developers. The iOS platform has created an entirely new industry with fantastic opportunities for developers across the country and around the world.”
