The evad3rs have announced that the private beta testing of their evasi0n jailbreak tool for iOS 6.1 has started for OS X, Windows, and Linux. The team’s progress is now at 80 percent, according to a memo on the evasi0n.com site.

A newly-emerged team of hackers, the evad3rs promise to issue an untethered jailbreak for all devices running iOS 6.0 through 6.1 soon.

Dubbed evasi0n, the hack is currently being tested internally. An “extended beta” is scheduled to commence soon.

The team reports 80% progress, a 5 percent uptick in roughly 24 hours. If these incremental notices are any indication, the public release of the jailbreak should be days away.

When it’s released in its final form, evasi0n will require a computer running Windows (XP minimum), Mac OS X (10.5 Leopard minimum) or Linux (x86 / x86_64).
