iOS 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak Is Coming, Hackers Keep Fingers Crossed for GM Release

With iOS 6.1 Beta 4 set to expire on Monday, Apple will either have to release a new beta or even the GM (Gold Master) build. Hackers Cyril (@pod2g), David Wang (@planetbeing), Nikias Bassen (@pimskeks), and @MuscleNerd are anxiously awaiting its release.

A Gold Master release is most likely as Apple seems to have wound up development on iOS 6.1. The release will bring as many new features as bug fixes. However, there’s nothing too exciting waiting for us in there.

A jailbreak is already available for the software, but the hackers are not willing to burn their exploits. They’re waiting for the final version of iOS 6.1 to roll out so they can test their jailbreak against it.

“There will certainly be no jailbreak release from us until 6.1 is out,” said David Wang (@planetbeing) who has been wielding a jailbroken iPhone 5 running iOS 6 for two months now.
