A considerable amount of complaints has been hitting Apple’s forums as of late. A lot of customers are reporting various problems with their iDevices after installing iOS 6.1.3, the latest software update for Apple’s mobile operating system.

A newly emerged issue seems to involve Gmail accounts. A number of users are reporting problems with their Mail application after installing iOS 6.1.3.

A member of the Apple Support Communities board, giroscott, writes, “I updated my phone 5 to IOS 6.1.3 and now my Mail app crashed as soon as it opens.”

He claims he was able to track down the issue to Gmail, “becuase [sic] once I disbaled [sic] those accounts my mail works. I deleted one of my Gmail accounts and when I add it back the app closes without adding the account back,” he explains.

Another customer, patchin1, chimes in to say, “Same problem here. I have one Yahoo, one Exchange, and one Gmail. They all worked in 6.1.2. After the update the Mail closes in a few second after opening. After I deleted the Gmail account, mail works normally with the Yahoo and Exchange account.”

A user identified as LC apple fan on Apple’s forums claims he is having the exact same problem on a third-generation iPad. “My ipad mini and my iphone updated to 6.1.3 without any problem and work fine. The ipad 3 mail gmail doesnt work,” he says.

“My other emails work fine. I tried restarting the ipad, closing the mail app several times. Finally I deleted the gmail account. Then I tried to add it back on and it keeps crashing,” he explains.

Others say they’ve deleted all their Gmail accounts and the iDevice won’t let them add them anymore.

Some believe it has something to do with Gmail accounts that have been set up as Exchange. Google is known to have ended support for Exchange Active Sync for unpaying customers.

There's more than one thread discussing the issue, which may indicate the presence of a bug within iOS 6.1.3.
