The usual warning, just in case you haven’t heard that jailbreak tools are actually free

A new hoard of jailbreak scams has emerged following the widespread coverage of iOS 6.1/6.1.1 jailbreaks. This is a warning for all unwary users looking to jailbreak their Apple handsets.

Fake jailbreak services have been around for years, and with each new iPhone generation these scams become more and more elaborate.

At the moment, there are over a dozen such fishy services on the web, asking your for hard cash in exchange for a jailbreak tool that, in most cases, is out of date / can be found free of charge with a Google search / is a virus / doesn’t even exist.

To make it clear for everyone who wants to hack their Apple device, there is but a single jailbreak app out there that you should pay attention to. Evasi0n gets the job done on any device configuration and firmware / baseband, and is completely free.

Coded by a dedicated team of hackers known as the evad3rs, evasi0n can be used on any Mac, Windows or Linux PC to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch device.

Here are a few examples of the emergent jailbreak scams we’ve been noticing lately:
