After widespread reports of iOS 6.0.2 causing battery drainage on some iDevices, new complaints are seemingly churning up regarding a potential audio bug caused by the iOS 6.0.2 update for iPhone 5 and iPad mini.

A few customers on Apple Support Communities are reporting that their iPhone 5 handsets are no longer emitting sound (both from the headset and the speaker) after updating to iOS 6.0.2, the latest release from Cupertino for new-generation iPhones and iPad mini tablets.

A user writing on the iMore forums is experiencing similar issues. However, he and others like him have been having these problems since updating to iOS 6.0 in September: “ive [sic] noticed on several occasions that the sound stops working. as in, no more volume controls. no sound from the ipod,” writes ckalli.

So far the issue doesn’t seem to be widespread, but we’ll keep an eye out on Apple’s forum to confirm whether or not this is an epidemic.

My beats by dre have stopped functioning after installation of iOS 6.0.2. Apple's airbuds that came with the iPhone 5 work as they should. The beats work correctly when having a phonecall but it's not possible to listen to music.

I am new to the iPhone world as of 1/17/2013. I have been experiencing conversations going mute while using speakerphone. I can't hear the person talking to me nor can they hear me. It seems like it was when my screen timed out and went dark. The person on the other end was an Apple tech trying to help me out with other problems. He didn't appear to be aware of any issues like this. Funny, now that you mention it I was noticing my battery life sucks.

"Churning up" doesn't mean what you think it means.

Having these sound problems myself... Though, for some reason, I can still play music, apps are just silent - keyboard sound effects etc. no longer happening either. Kind of disconcerting...

I am having this exact same issue with video and audio with my new update

I think the bug is worse than this. My phone reboots after listening to various sound sources (iTunes, Downcast, Audible).

This condition is true for me. My speaker simply stopped working following update. I hope Apple is taking this bug insertion seriously.

My iphone 4 does not emit sounds through the main speaker in certain scenarios. i.e When i listen to music, or use apps. However I can listen to audio via headphones.

The sound problem is a big issue .. I had to put the vibration on to be able to know my calls that drain the battery..

I had this same issue with my 4s after updating to ios 6; my phone eventually "froze" on the start-up screen and had to be replaced - I'm currently on 5.0 and worry free; I refuse to "upgrade" to 6.0.2!!! My phone dying was a blessing in disguise as I see the new update has not addressed this issue.
