Reportlinker.com has beefed up its portfolio with a new market research report that focuses on iOS 5 and iCloud and their implications for the future trends of mobile OS platforms, as well as the subsequent challenges for iOS competitors and software developers.

Reportlinker says that Apple’s unveiling of iOS 5 at WWDC 2011 was a bid to compete head to head with the Google Android OS.

Whether that’s true or not, they add that Apple's iCloud was launched to replace MobileMe, the former suite of web services that charged customers $99 a year.

“The releases of iOS 5 and iCloud are expected to begin to take their toll on the industry,” says Reportlinker, who has worked up a report that “analyses innovations and new business models of iOS5 and iCloud and the subsequent challenges for iOS competitors and software developers.”

The paper basically looks at what’s new in iOS 5 and what are the implications of those new features.

For example, what iMessage is going to do to SMS as we know it, or the Apple-Twitter partnership, which Reportlinker regards as a move to prevent Facebook's dominance of Social Networks.

Major companies and organizations analyzed or mentioned in the report include Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft. The full table of contents includes:
