When it’s released this fall, iOS 5 will offer end customers built-in Twitter integration, so they can sign in once and then tweet directly from all their Twitter-enabled apps, including Photos, Camera, Safari, YouTube and Maps with just a few taps.

Twitter, the popular micro-blogging service already has native apps for Mac OS X and iOS devices.

The latest desktop version of the app is so good, you’ll never want to use Air-coded solutions like Tweet Deck, for example.

But what about the iOS front? Yes, the App Store is filled with dedicated Twitter apps, including one from the very people at Twitter.

But (to use an Apple-typical catchphrase) wouldn’t it be great if you could tweet from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch without having to fire up an actual application?

Many will undoubtedly answer ‘yes it would’ and Apple is delivering in iOS 5.

“iOS 5 makes it even easier to tweet from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch,” the company says on its iOS marketing page.

“Sign in once in Settings, and suddenly you can tweet directly from Safari, Photos, Camera, YouTube, or Maps. Want to mention or @reply to a friend? Contacts applies your friends’ Twitter usernames and profile pictures. So you can start typing a name and iOS 5 does the rest. You can even add a location to any tweet, no matter which app you’re tweeting from.”

Travelers will undoubtedly find the integration with Camera and Photos extremely useful and fun.

Users simply take a quick picture, tap the sharing button, select Twitter, and hit send.

Optionally, you can add text and even tick the location arrow to let followers know exactly where the shot was taken.

And this is just one use of the Twitter integration in the upcoming iOS 5.

According to Apple, new APIs give third party developers the ability to take advantage of the single sign-on capability for their own iOS 5 apps.

Expect tons of Twitter-enabled apps to emerge, perhaps even some new ones focused entirely on the service.
