Pod2g has issued a tweet crediting fellow hackers @planetbeing and @pimskeks for their input in the development of a new jailbreak tool for iOS 5.1.1 users on A5 devices. The release should occur in a matter of days, according to the post.

On May 20th (Sunday), Pod2g wrote on Twitter: “Thanks to awesome work of @planetbeing and @pimskeks, we're near ready for a release. Now it's a matter of days.”

The hacker is, of course, referring to his untethered jailbreak for iOS version 5.1.1 on devices equipped with the new A5 and A5X chips, as well as the older iPhones, iPads and iPod touch players featuring the first-in-line Apple processor - the A4.

A blog entry made earlier this month by the infamous iPhone Dev Team said, “of course all eyes are on @pod2g for his upcoming 5.1 untethered jailbreak. Watch his blog or twitter feed for the latest updates about that, but in the meantime if you accidentally updated your jailbroken A5 device to something later than 5.0.1, feel free to try this new A5 firmware downgrade feature of redsn0w!”

The Dev Team has since updated redsn0w to version 0.9.11b3 to fix “the spurious ‘Restore failed’ messages people were sometimes getting,” as well as to make the app “behave better with nearby devices that have wifi syncing enabled.”

Later, version 0.9.11b4 was released to “complete the tethered JB support for 5.1.1 on A4 devices and earlier, including proper ‘Stitching’ and ‘Custom’ creation of NO_BB IPSWs.”

On his own blog, Chronic Dev Team’s Pod2g has a list of supported devices for his upcoming jailbreak, and the devices that are known to work for sure are: iPhone 3Gs; iPhone 4; iPhone 4 CDMA; iPhone 4S; iPad 1; iPad 2 Wifi; iPad 2 GSM; iPad 2 CDMA; iPad 3 Wifi; iPad 3 CDMA; iPod 3G; and iPod 4G.

Remaining to be tested (but should still work) are the iPad 2 Wifi R2, iPad 3 Global, and AppleTV 2, says Pod2g. The AppleTV 3rd-generation won’t be supported.

Pod2g’s upcoming jailbreak should arrive in the form of an updated Absinthe 2.0 release.
