Chronic Dev’s pod2g confirms the feat on Twitter, YouTube

Infamous hacker pod2g is spreading the word on Twitter that the wait for an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak is over. Well, almost over, since the actual tools are yet to be made available for download.

A terse (Steve-jobsian) tweet signed pod2g reads “iOS 5.0 untethered jailbreak demo” followed by a link to a video the hacker has just uploaded to YouTube.

The evidence is there that Chronic Dev’s well known hacker has finally achieved what the entire jailbreak community has been waiting for - a fully untethered jailbreak for devices other than iPhone 3GS with old bootrom.

Unfortunately, pod2g is yet to confirm all supported devices and, of course, a potential release date for the hack.

The exploit used to achieve this untethered jailbreak will most likely be incorporated in a new version of Greenpois0n, the team’s jailbreak app - the equivalent of the iPhone Dev Team’s PwnageTool.

Speaking of which, the iPhone Dev Team’s own Musclenerd tweeted earlier today that a new version of Redsn0w was on the way, potentially signaling that the untethered iOS 5 jailbreak will come via more than just tool.

He advised jailbreakers to start using a tool called TinyUmbrella to save their iOS 5.0.1 SHSH blobs for future unlocking and / or firmware downgrading.

“Upcoming redsn0w release makes both TinyUmbrella and Cydia blob saves useful for 5.0+ (1st verifies, then stitches),” he wrote.

Both Greenpois0n and Redsn0w are available in Mac- and Windows PC-friendly versions and they are sometimes referred to as ‘userland’ tools, which means you don’t need any technical know how to employ them.

Pod2g encourages Twitter followers to stick around in order to get the latest updates. If everything goes according to plan, Chronic Dev should have an updated version of Greenpois0n out by the end of the day, or sometime this weekend at the latest.
