Apple has confirmed to developers that iOS 5.0.1, currently in beta testing, introduces a new file attribute that cleverly manages data backups. The purpose is to enable devs to achieve a better experience for their users, even in low storage scenarios.

A new tip over at developer.apple.com (the News and Announcements section for Apple devs) says “iOS 5.0.1 beta is now available on the iOS Dev Center.”

The seeding occurred with the primary focus of fixing battery drainage for early iPhone 4S adopters and iOS 5 customers in general.

Talking about iOS 5.0.1, Apple continues: “It introduces a new way for developers to specify files that should remain on device, even in low storage situations.” A link is provided for those who wish to leverage the new functionality in their respective applications.
