As foreseen by Softpedia, Apple launched iOS 4.3.2 earlier than most knowledgeable sources had originally predicted, with the new firmware update packing fixes for the most recently reported issues, as well as security fixes.

Those connecting their iDevice to iTunes will be greeted by Apple’s typical message “a new software version (4.3.2) is available for [your device]”, asking them what they want to do - download, or automatically download and install.

According to the release notes thoughtfully posted by Apple over at its Support section, the update contains improvements and other bug fixes,

Apple documents a fix for an issue that occasionally caused blank or frozen video during a FaceTime call, as well as for an issue that prevented some international users from connecting to 3G networks on iPad Wi-Fi + 3G.

The iOS 4.3.2 firmware also contains the latest security updates, Apple says.

A quick trip to the knowledge base article entitled “About the security content of iOS 4.3.2 Software Update” reveals that Apple has patched five security holes, the most serious of which would allow an attacker with a privileged network position to intercept user credentials or other sensitive information.

The devices compatible with this specific software update are iPhone 4 (GSM model), iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation), and iPod touch (3rd generation).

For CDMA iPhones, Apple has rolled out iOS 4.2.7 with a specific focus on fixing vulnerabilities.

“This update contains improvements and other bug fixes including […] the latest security updates,” Apple says.

Softpedia will be documenting those in a separate article. As noted above, iOS 4.3.2 and iOS 4.2.7 are available through iTunes. The application will know what IPSW file to serve to which device, though savvy users preferring to download the firmware update files themselves can do so using the links below.
