A number of iPad 2 owners are reporting issues with screen orientation, some from day one, others after using the tablet for a while. It appears the problem is software bound, and likely to be fixed by Apple is the upcoming incremental update iOS 4.3.2.

A person identified as koganinjastyle on the Apple Discussions forums shares his story, saying “I received my iPad 2 today, and since turning it on I've not been able to get it to rotate the orientation at all - not on the home screen, lock screen, or in apps - it's just completely stuck on the standard portrait orientation with the home button below the screen.”

The user claims to have tried all potential solutions - rebooting, restoring with iTunes, updating to iOS 4.3.1, fiddling with the orientation lock settings - but no cigar.

“I've rebooted it, tried a restore in iTunes, updated to 4.3.1, checked the orientation lock (both the physical switch and in the multitasking bar) and repeated all of these in various orders many times to no avail,” koganinjastyle writes.

“The accelerometer seems to be working as Labyrinth 2 HD plays fine so I'm guessing it's a software issue, but I just can't fix it,” he observes.

Another iPad 2 owner, Mockocalypse, claims to be having the same issue, saying “iPad 2 was working fine last night. This morning, it is stuck in portrait mode.”

"The screen lock is not on, it is not the side switch. I tried both a soft and hard restart. Tried connecting to iTunes, to no avail,” he shares with fellow Discussioners.

The same person comes back with an update, saying Apple had replaced his iPad after acknowledging the flaw at his local retail store.

Others continue to report the same issue in a thread that is likely to grow in the days leading up to Apple’s rumored release of iOS 4.3.2.

The update is said to be in the works with a focus on fixing some widely reported bugs, including the FaceTime glitch Softpedia reported on earlier this week after spotting a similar thread on Apple’s forums.
