Reports indicate that iOS 4.3.1 improves battery life for some iPhone and iPad users, but it remains unclear whether iPod touch owners experiencing these problems since the initial 4.0 launch have seen any improvements.

One source aggregating a bunch of Twitter messages fired off by iOS customers seems to indicate that Apple’s latest iOS software update not only delivers what it promised, but also something that it didn’t - improvements in battery performance.

Soon after Apple launched iOS 4.3 (on March 10), members of the iOS user base went on record to signal decreased battery performance, seemingly caused by the latest software update.

For some iOS device owners, such as those using an iPod touch, the battery drain problems have been present ever since the initial iOS 4.0 builds were released.

While some iPhone and iPad users now indicate there is a visible improvement in the way iOS manages power thanks to the new update, iPod touch owners are yet to confirm similar results.

We would like to take this opportunity to ask our readers what their experience has been after updating to the new firmware version.

iPod touch users in particular are strongly encouraged to report their results.

For those who haven’t yet updated their devices to the new iOS 4.3.1, it is worth noting that Apple has designed the update to deliver the following improvements and bug fixes:

• Fixes an occasional graphics glitch on iPod touch (4th generation) • Resolves bugs related to activating and connecting to some cellular networks • Fixes image flicker when using Apple Digital AV Adapter with some TVs • Resolves an issue authenticating with some enterprise web services

Targeted by the new OS are the GSM iPhone 4 (CDMA iPhones not supported), all versions of the iPad, the iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4th and 3rd generation devices.

iOS 4.3.1 can be applied by connecting your device to a computer (Mac or PC) running iTunes (preferably the latest version).
